A Women's Day Special

On International Women's Day the spotlight is on one of our most senior and respected employee - Shirley Pereira, Executive Personal Assistant to the General Manager and Deputy General Manager.

How long have you been working with Scientechnic for?

I joined Scientechnic on 15 December,1998. It has been a wonderful and rewarding 19 years. I am thankful for the opportunity to work for the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group for as many years as I have.

What is your role and what are your responsibilities at Scientechnic?

As Executive Personal Assistant to the General Manager, Easa F. Al Gurg and Deputy General Manager, Tanveer Shabandri, it is my responsibility to ensure that the offices of senior management function in smoothly.

Can you give us a quick rundown of a regular day of work for you?

As soon as I get to work, I go over the daily requirements and prioritise tasks based on its importance. As the day continues, there are always last minute requirements that come up and I usually have to alter plans in order to accommodate new requirements while ensuring that the daily tasks continue to roll out systematically. I have a fantastic team that are highly efficient and supportive. Towards late afternoon, I prepare for the next day over a nice and much needed (by then) cup of green tea.

What do you find most interesting about your job?

There is no monotony in my work; it is extremely challenging which keeps things interesting, as every day is different.

At Scientechnic, we have a great team and work atmosphere. Working on new challenges/projects as Scientechnic continues to be a market-leader, is something I always look forward to.

What is the one recent accomplishment you are most proud of and why?

I recently enrolled in Scientechnic’s new fitness initiative for top management, ‘90-day step-up challenge’ and I am already down 4 kilograms in about 40-days. Taking care of my health and keeping active is an ongoing goal, I am very proud of the progress I have made in spite of a busy work and family schedule. I feel great and motivated to keep going!

What do you like to do in your spare time? Any interests or hobbies that you would like to share?

I enjoy entertaining family and experimenting with new recipes. I am also a fan of everything Bollywood, from music to movies.

You play a big role in ensuring that the company runs smoothly, what do you think is the most important skills set required to manage the work and staff effectively?

A mature approach and capability to work under pressure is important. Patience and listening skills are much needed when dealing with complex matters. The ability to multitask and yet remain organized is crucial and goes a long way in managing an executive office.
