The In Vitro outdoor lamp collection designed by Philippe Starck presents a series of glowing glass lanterns that magically appear to illuminate on their own, like pure architectural volumes of light.
Solar powdered, the In Vitro series of lamps are a touch of elegance to any environment it is installed in. Although it takes structural inspiration from the ancient lantern, the collection has been designed to suit the aesthetics sensibilities of a modern and contemporary world.
In his words, Philippe Starck expertly describes the lamps as a poetic and surrealistic take on dematerialised architectural lighting and an ode to the memory of space occupied by light. Since forever, the lightbulb has been protected by a glass globe. However, in the In Vitro series, this disappears in favour of the light. Enclosed in a cage-like structure made of die-cast and extruded aluminium, the LED light source is well hidden by an opalescent diffuser and well encased within a transparent borosilicate glass. The result, is perfect uniform lighting. Apart from this, a driver integrated in the body of the unit can be used to switch the device on or off as well as for dimming controls.
The Flos In Vitro lamps come in variations suitable for exterior ground, wall mounts, ceiling and hanging installations, promising a self-sufficiency of
24 hours of lighting. Each unit can be easily maintained and installed. The wall mounted version has a solid, compact look and is completely integrated with the body of the lamp. The bollard version can be easily installed on any flooring on the ground with anchors, or with the dedicated installation box to completely integrate the base of the product with the pavement. For the hanging version, the power cable supports the light and is perfectly integrated in the head of the product thanks to its special body design.
The structure of the In Vitro outdoor lamps have been treated with a chemical conversion process for effective resistance to atmospheric agents. The body is powder coated and comes in various finishes. Offering a contemporary and clean look and feel, this light collection can be easily integrated into any setting and can be used as an accessory to elevate a space and give it a hint of sophistication. As rightly described by its designer, the In Vitro series of lamps does indeed exude a poetic and surrealistic touch of elegance.
