With Patera, designer Øivind Slaatto, intended a modern chandelier with vibrant and beautiful light – a fixture that unites large rooms and makes the space comfortable and human; discrete, self-conscious, modest and exclusive, all at the same time.
Finished in white and matt coated, Patera has been designed as an overhanging pendant. It resembles a glowing sphere built up of small diamond-shaped cells, each cell carefully designed to capture light and glow. The fixture is engineered in a way that it shields the light source from viewing angles above 45 degrees. Below 45 degrees, the fields are open to direct light downwards, and while doing so, a small amount of light also gets sent upwards allowing soft luminance on the ceiling.
Drawing inspiration from the Fibonacci curve and Poul Henningsen’s use of visor lines, the Patera light structure offsets the visual focal point of the fixture from its centre, encouraging its spectator to take a visual tour, exploring the pattern which is a combination of mathematics, nature and poetry.
Patera not only serves as a decorative lighting solution, but is also classified as highly functional. It provides beautiful and atmospheric light to its surroundings. A timeless design of great architectural versatility, the Patera features 100% glare-free light, a symmetric light distribution, a combination of diffused and downward lighting, and is suitable for repetitive installations. All these factored in, this invention from Louis Poulsen offers suitability to a wide range of applications.
The LED version of Patera has been optimised for a long technical lifetime, the colour temperatures its offers and energy efficiency indicates Patera does more for the environment coupled in with the experience. The unit is also available with an E27 fitting for other types of light sources such as LED bulbs.
