In Employee Spotlight we feature Senior Accountant, Nandakumar Madanagopal
How long have you been working with Scientechnic for?
I joined Scientechnic on August 24th,2014. I cannot believe that it has already been almost four and a half years since I joined this wonderful organization. It has been a good over four years.
What is your role and what are your responsibilities at Scientechnic?
I take care of the financial Management Information Systems (MIS), which mainly involves providing financial information for senior managers to make daily decisions on the operations within the organization. I am actively involved in the budgeting exercise for the company. I also look after the accounting requirements of the Energy Management (Low Voltage) and Sheet Metal Division.
As a Senior Accountant, can you give us a quick rundown of a regular day at work for you?
I am a morning person and believe in starting the day early. Working in finance requires one to be systematic and organised. I have a daily schedule that I follow which allows me to prioritise and plan my tasks based on their importance and urgency. I try not to leave for the day until I have completed all the tasks on my daily to-do list.
What do you find most interesting about your job?
I like to work with numbers, especially on an excel sheet. I try improvising routine tasks by using technology to automate them. This is an effective time-saving technique as well. I love the fact that my role within the company allows me to grow technically and gives me an opportunity to enhance my inter-personal skills.
What do you like to do in your spare time? Any interests or hobbies that you would like to share?
I am fond of watching movies and spending quality of time with my family. I invest some free time in developing a better understanding of Microsoft Excel.
Your role involves ensuring that the company saves money, how do you manage this in your day-to-day job?
Scientechnic gives me the flexibility to invest time to improve the quality of my work. That leads to a better and faster way of doing things, and when time is saved we automatically save costs.
What is the one recent accomplishment you are most proud of and why?
Towards the end of 2018 I worked hard on creating a comprehensive budget presentation for 2019 that was to be presented to the ESAG Corporate Office. I was thrilled when our CEO – Easa F. Al Gurg appreciated my effort. I was given a mention in the message from the CEO that is shared with everyone within the organization. It was a proud and happy moment for me.
I consider it my good fortune to be working with Scientechnic. It is a company that does not hesitate to appreciate the efforts of its employees, no matter how big or small the achievement. When appreciated one is motivated to perform better. According to me it is one of the reasons why I have colleagues who have spent several years working with Scientechnic. When the relationship is of such mutual trust and respect we automatically work with each other and the management and try and give our best to our job and responsibilities.
